She is getting old….but I love her. She’s been there through the “hApPy” and “sad” times. She lays beside you when you have a cold and barks at you for a piece of pepperoni from your pizza…she is always your friend. Happy to see you when come home and sad to see you go. Ever vigilant till she hears the garage door open and UN-endless devotion when you walk through the door. I will be sad to see her go when her time comes however, I’m glad she shared her time with us.

Flowers blooming, in the sun. The buzz of bees has begun. Spiders scurry from nook to cranny. Hydrangea green and foliage still. Frogs peep from their burrowed hills. Foxglove all-orange with their trumpets they praise! And strawberries from yellow, to blood-red ripe raise; their vines to reach towards the sun. oh, The Garden, it has begun.

A chill is in the air. Winter is here. I hear the gravel in the night, rustle of the leaves beneath my feet. My dog walks trying to take a pee. I wait….wait impatiently. She snorts, then grunts, as she squats to pee. I shake with chill from the cool breeze. Hurry I think…but, don’t mutter a sound. she looks up from the cold ground. What is in the distance we see. Two big round eyes staring back at me. She stands in utter stillness still. I stand and wonder what is beyond the hill. A pounce in the air and a rush of fear. Just the neighbors cat, “Meow….” he’s just a kitten. My pug snorts with a nonchalant dismissal then hurries to the porch, toward the warm light in the door. I hurry behind…to close chill behind the door.

I’m always on the lookout for a new “favorite” taste in coffee. Most I’m just not satisfied with. I was walking down the coffee and tea aisle of our local grocery store yesterday, hoping to find that coffee that I will buy above all others for years to come. I’ve tried two of the stand-bys that most homes carry…I’ve tried the expensive chain brands…I’ve tried the supermarket generic brands. None have held up to the test of me finishing the bag satisfied or rushing to get more of the same before the last ground is gone. However, as I was surveying the vast number of brands in front of me I overheard this lady with a very thick, old school, southern accent say to her partner “I just don’t see it…this is the only store I know of in the area that keeps a small stock of it! It is the only coffee I will buy and drink.” They banter back and forth while my fingers are gliding over the labels of coffees that I would never purchase; it was my way of pretending I was unaware of their presence. I was listening to every word. I had to know what could cause this woman to be in such a panic, over coffee! I scan the coffees wondering which one could it be? Her partner asks what the name of it is? She begins to describe the coffee bag with her southern drawl that now has a worried tone. At this point I look up to catch a glance of them. There stands this super svelte couple in their 60′s, both had on workout clothing however, not a hair was out of place. They looked like old money. Her eyebrows were raised almost to the line of perfectly coiffed white bob haircut; her small diamond earrings peeked from behind the hair that was tucked behind her ears. He was super in shape and obviously in love with this woman. She scoured the brands with her retro black rimmed glasses; and exclaimed, “it is called Community Coffee, It is delicous! Its in a red bag!” Red bag, red bag, community, red bag; unbeknownest to the couple I had just seen the coffee, third shelf down, only three bags on the shelf. Someone else likes this brand too! I quickly exclaimed, “Its here!” From where she was standing they would have never found it behind an aisle advertisement. She made her thank yous, and thanked some more. As they were walking away the lady said “She found it for me!” Time to buy! I picked up the shiny red package; hmmmm, a four generation family owned business from Louisiana and is a southern coffee, not a steep price either. Kind of middle range from the generic and expensive brands. I ease around the aisle hoping the couple have moved on because for some ODD reason I didn’t want them to know I too was purchasing the coffee; or maybe it was because I didn’t want them to know I had listened to everything that was said. I arrived home, unloaded the grocery, and for my lunch, albeit not a healthy one, I made a pot of the silkiest, decadent tasting, coffee I’ve eve made. (although I did enjoy it with Fat Free creamer) You must try this coffee! You won’t be disappointed! Now, alas, it is time to study. I bid adieu for now. It is a study day….study, study, study. It is already beginning to feel like fall. Although we have a very warm day today and tomorrow some very cool temperatures are slowly creeping in by the end of this week. I have to admit. I LOVE fall and winter. I love the crisp air, the beautiful decorations, and all the splendid things you can cook for dinner that go so well with the chill in the air. However, my husband I are keeping it on the LITE side when it comes to dinner these days. We have found some very inventive ways to have good meals, that are affordable, and low calorie. I’ll share some of our recipes we’ve tried at a later date. As for now, enjoy the last days of summer!

I’m 36 years old today; my mom called. I love to hear her voice; she feels like home. My sissy and brother also sent best Happy Birthday wishes; I love em! I’m working on some courses via local college and have completed one exam of two this morning. All day has been nothing but torrential downpours with some breaks of sun peaking through the rain now and again. The backdrop of the mountains are beautiful with the shadows bouncing off their peaks. It is my understanding the Blue Ridge Mountains are the oldest mountains in the world. They feel ancient. Especially when you travel the winding, snake looped hollers of Little Switzerland and the higher elevations. You feel as if you have stepped back in time. Traditions here are old, the people are friendly, to a point…they have to trust you before you get to know them. I love it here! I might paint today after my exams are finished. Yeah…today feels like a painting should be made.

Just started juicing along with eating some other healthy meal options. It isn’t bad. Aside from the work buying, slicing and dicing the veggies and fruits; it is all worth it in the end. Tried a awesome juice recipe of kale, spinach, oranges, green apples, carrots, and a few blueberries on the first try. After drinking, my husband and I felt like we could run a marathon! Will keep juicing in the following week and see where it takes us. Yum!
